How Can You Tell The Sex Of A Ball Python?

I just bought a ball python yesterday. I want to know the sex but all I can find online is “probing” and “popping” to check. Does anyone know of a way without having to do something like that?

Popping and probing are basically the only ways to tell without breeding trials and watching adults’ behavior toward one another.
If there is an experienced reptile supplier/store in your area, you could ask if they offer sexing as one of their services. Some may charge a small fee for doing this and others may do it at no charge. Just call around.
If you absolutely have to know and can’t find a pet shop or breeder that can sex your ball, you could take it to a qualified herp vet. However, this will be more expensive.

Popping and probing is all you are seeing because they are the only ways to sex them. Looking at head and tail size is not accurate and is more of a myth than anything. Find someone to pop or probe it for you if you really need to know.

If it’s a female, the head will be smaller, the end of the tail will be short and stumpier, and the overall adult length matched with it’s age will be much bigger than a male.
